This semester we are happy to announce some new equipment in the Media Center. Stop by and check this out. New equipment available for loan:

Studio 1 also gets a significant upgrade in terms of recording quality and functionality. We’ve replaced the Firewire audio interface with the RME Fireface 800. Additionally to work with Logic Pro, we’ve added a control surface, Mackie’s Control Universal Pro.  With these advancements in recording quality and functionality, Studio1 has become a lot more complicated to use, a little more exclusive. We will therefore limit use of the space to patrons who have been oriented to the space, equipment and recording features.

Audio Software Upgrades in Media Center

If you’re into music, recording it, editing it, or producing it, then we got you covered. We’ve recently upgraded three audio apps in our software arsenal. The first is GarageBand. The basic, bare bones but powerful “recording studio” software from Apple. All the new apple audio apps have multi-take recording features. GarageBand adds something called “Magic GarageBand” (hilarious, even if it’s not very useful). The second is SoundTrack Pro . Very Cool. The Third is Logic Studio. A significant upgrade that de-clutters the interface, making professional recording and mixing even more accessible. Stop by and check them out. If you want a one-on-one session on how to use any of the apps, shoot me an email at mtdavi@wm.edu.

Motu Ultralite

Need a very nice interface for recording? Then check out the MOTU Ultralite. We’ve used this in our studios for some time and have found that the preamps on this thing sound super sweet. We’ve had enough requests to check it out that we’ve made it so. What’s cool about this thing is that it can be used with a computer or as a standalone mixer. It sports 10 inputs (2 mic preamps) and 14 outputs. It can also run completely bus-powered via firewire.
